Leszek Ołdak

Graphic artist, poster designer, draughtsman, illustrator and set designer. Born in 1942 in Zamość, Poland. He studied Architecture at the Wrocław University of Technology. His works are displayed at the Aneks Gallery. The exhibition title - "Close to Theatre" directly refers to the artist's interests. For many years Ołdak has been fascinated by the theatre; he has designed posters for theatrical performances and used theatre motifs in his graphics and drawings. His works present the world of "theatre horror vacui"- the artist tightly fills his compositions with multiplanar elements of scenery, puppets and actors. In the artist's works you may feel the space and depth of the stage, and at the same time see mechanisms of its operation. Ołdak shows wooden structures, curtains, masks, actors - he discloses the theatre, reveals its true colours. In his drawings and graphics the artist shows also elements making up travelling theatres which fascinate with their aura of mystery created by hand and wooden puppets, by clowns. The works constructed by the artist introduce a viewer into a magical world of fairytales performed on stage by a number of theatres, in particular puppet theatres.
