Exhibition presenting two artists whose artistic practice embraces installation, site-specific art, sculpture and performance.
Adam Niklewicz was born in 1956 in Zamosc, Poland. He lives and works in the USA where he settled in 1983. Niklewicz earned his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri (1989) and his MFA in sculpture from State University of New York at Purchase (2006). He is the recipient of the International Sculpture Center's 2006 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award. For the past 10 years, Niklewicz has exhibited in the USA (often in New York), as well as in Europe (Zacheta Gallery in Warsaw, amongst others).
Jerzy Kosałka was born in 1955 in Bedzin, Poland. In 1981 he earned his MFA in painting from PWSSP Wroclaw, Poland under the mentorship of professor Z. Karpinski. He is the recipient of the Krystiana Robb-Norbutt Award (2009). A one-time member of the 'Legendarny LUXUS' artistic formation, Kosalka employs a diverse range of media and techniques. His practice includes installations, interventions in public space, artistic objects and performance.
Both artists display a knack for finding the unusual in the ordinary. They both employ humor and irony and mix it with a philosophical reflection. At times, their strategy involves being responsive to a specific circumstance or place (in this case - Opole) and to invite the viewer to engage in a game. Be ready to participate!
